After the 2011 ranking, Emamidesign from Berlin has reached the top position in the international red dot ranking of design agencies for best design concepts for the second time in a row and outdistanced its top-class competitors from various countries in doing so. The ranking takes into account the number and type of red dot awards given in the last five years. The jury pays particular attention to the innovativeness of the concepts, and the continuity of the service. We are proud of the (albeit unofficial) title, as it is objective proof of our sustained competence. Going forward, we aim to continue to prove our “outstanding sense of design and innovation” as one of the world’s leading innovators.
Emamidesign: made in Berlin, with vision, strategy, passion – and lasting success. Maybe this is the place in which to discreetly point out that 98% of our work till now has received awards at both the national and international level.
It takes development and perspective to continue a success story. As the protagonist in such a success story, Emamidesign of course remains on the ball, so it comes as no surprise that four of our products and concepts have been nominated for the 2013 German Design Award:
The German Design Award is an international premium prize awarded by the German Design Council. Just to be nominated is an honour. We have our fingers crossed for ourselves as well as other nominees – after all, we are excited to find out how our design success story will develop.
Let us start off modestly: in the creative ranking of the International Design Forum, we are in 46th position. This ranking also features agencies, architects, in-house designers for major companies, and design agencies. If we consider only the design agencies, we are in 6th place. Another important perspective arises if one looks at the positions of major global corporations. Mercedes Benz (in 67th place), for example, or BMW Group Designworks USA (76th place). These, as well as IBM, Motorola, and many others have been overtaken at top speed in the fast lane by Emamidesign. And not because we are speed freaks!
From a total of 2,923 entries in 16 categories, a total of 863 submissions were able to impress the jury of the International Design Forum and win the iF label for outstanding design. Only 60 made it into the experts’ top selection for the famous industrial design gold award. Following our success in 2011 with the USB Clip, we have again been able to come out on top, and are delighted with our success. We present to you:
“SQ Mobile Drive” – the word’s thinnest hard drive, with a scratch-proof stainless steel surface, protected by a plastic core: 500 GB, 2.5 inches, low noise, low energy consumption, USB 3.0.
The iF gold award for the “SQ” is the 35th design prize we have won in our short company history. We wouldn’t say no to an iF gold hat trick, and are doing our best to pull it off – as ever.
Right on time for the opening of this year’s CeBIT, Emamidesign once gain received an award for outstanding product design. Out of 2,756 submissions, our “USB Clip” made it into the top 50, receiving the iF gold award 2011 from the International Design Forum. In a statement on its decision, the jury says that the clip “makes intelligent use of the virtual invisibility of this medium. The product’s understated design greatly extends its range of application; it is a beautiful, highly contemporary ‘must-have‘ product.’“
We feel the same way, but without making ourselves invisible. We are thrilled to have received this wonderful award!
It started over breakfast one weekend: Arman Emami wanted to send a female friend a longer video for her birthday and hit upon the idea of attaching the USB stick to her birthday card. The stick became a clip which in 2009 was given the red dot award: design concept with the red dot: best of the best, and (which) went into production soon afterwards. For this year’s red dot award: product design, the “USB-Clip” once more impressed the international jury of experts, and has now yet again received the highest award, the red dot: best of the best. – this is an absolute first in the history of the “red dot” award, which has been in existence since 1955!
For us, it is a great success. To be among the best twice in a row for the concept and implementation of the same product “is like Easter and Christmas rolled into one” (Arman Emami).
Ken Koo, President red dot Asia
“Since the inception of the red dot award: design concept, there have been many success stories – but this is the first time that a concept has won a red dot: best of the best award and gone on to receive the red dot: best of the best for product design.”
Nils Toft, member of the jury – red dot award: industrial design 2010
“The added value stems from the honest use of a design which doesn’t pretend to be anything other than what it is, and thus with intelligent simplicity creates a new function through its form as a clip, which allows users to just add a whole lot of digital information to a business card, a letter, or whatever else they want to use.”
Danny Venlet, member of the jury – red dot award: design concept
“I am sure that this product will become a bestseller.”
